Client Air Show Pilot: Seth Wilson
Category (Basic, Advanced or Extreme): Advanced
In this video clip (below), instructor Clarke “Otter” McNeace talks customer Seth (aka Viking) through the Torque Roll. Seth is an Arizona local adventurer from Anthem, AZ. He sure had fun doing aerobatics and went head-to-head in our advanced air combat course in the same flight.
What’s Happening? The Torque Roll is a fun maneuver where the aircraft is pointed staight up starting with about 160 knots (~180 mph) of airspeed. The pilot then begins a vertical roll until the aircraft runs out of airspeed and begins to fall backwards through the air. If the pilot can get the aircraft perfectly vertical, it will come backwards quite aways before flipping ends and pointing straight down.
Talk about a fun way to turn around, huh?! If you think you, or someone you know, would like this kind of flying then definitely consider participating in our Flight of Your Life program. No flight experience is required and this is NOT a simulator.
